The findings were published in a letter to the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
In the study, one group received conventional pain management therapies, including pain medications. The second group utilized integrative therapies, including acupuncture and relaxation/meditation CDs. Both of the groups received treatments over a six-week period, with a 12-week follow-up.

Do you or a love one suffer from TMJ or Temporomadibular Joint Disorder? Do you grind your teeth at night only to wake up in pain the next morning? Do you have pain in your jaw, face, neck and/or shoulders? If so, you may be one of many who suffer from TMJ Disorder or TMD.
What Causes Jaw Pain?
Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ) are problems or symptoms of the chewing muscles and joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the area where the jaw and skull connect at a ball and socket hinge in front of the ears. The good news is that now less than 2 out of 10 adults smoke. The number of American adults who smoke has dropped below 20 percent for the first time in our nation’s history. The bad news is health officials said that cigarettes kill almost a half-million people a year. The 1990s showed adult males in the U.S. lost an average of 13.2 years of their lives and females lost 14.5 years due to smoking. Compared to people who continue smoking, smokers who quit before age 50 cut their risk of dying in half over the next 15 years, according to the American Cancer Society.
While modern technology has enabled us to use surgery and Botox (injecting botulinum toxin into facial muscles) to look younger, you might ask what are these people going to do 5 years down the road? Before you schedule an appointment for Botox, you might want to know a little more about it.
Botox uses the substance that causes botulism, a sometimes fatal form of food poisoning. Botox interrupts nerve impulses to muscles in the face. The crow’s feet that appear when you squint, the lines that furrow your brow when you raise your eyebrows and the creases between the eyebrows when you frown can be caused by tension in underlying muscles, which contract the skin. Botox keeps this from happening temporarily.

Here’s your chance to receive a free Chinese pulse diagnosis. Stop by Richfield Lutheran Church Health Fair on the corner of Nicollet Avenue and 60th Street in Minneapolis, MN 55419 on Saturday, October 16th from 10am to 3pm.
The most respected method of diagnosis in Chinese Medicine is “Pulse Diagnosis.” This method is a lost art with very few practitioners competent in its immense subtlety. Steven Sonmore, L.Ac. is personally trained in this lost art. Used correctly, the pulse can reveal anatomical problems such as soft tissue damage, allergies, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, ovarian cysts, bone spurs, gall stones, sinus infections, gastric ulcers and a host of other physical aliments. At the Complete Oriental Medical Care, LLC this method of pulse diagnosis is used daily in our treatment protocol.
Are you suffering from chronic pain? If so, you may wonder what type of licensed health professional could help you. If you’re like a lot of people in your situation, you may have already tried pain medications, or you may be using prescriptions that only relieve your pain a little bit. You may be suffering from side effects as a result of these medications or the need to increase your dosage as you become immune to the effects of the pain killers. Unfortunately, this is the experience of many who take meds for pain. For some, it becomes so severe that they become addicted to the pain killers and must enter a rehabilitation facility to stop taking them.
