Studies Show Acupuncture Effective for Peripheral Neuropathy In Diabetics

A 2007 study called “Clinical Observation On The Effects of Acupuncture In Treating Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy” comprising of 60 participants found that those receiving acupuncture had a greater improvement in neurological symptoms as well as improved nerve function for both sensory and motor nerve conduction when compared to the control group.

A Chinese study with 90 participants receiving body or wrist and ankle acupuncture had significantly improved blood sugar and lipids, decreased blood viscosity, and improved functions of peripheral nerve cells. This resulted in therapeutic effects for diabetic peripheral neuritis compared to the control group.

The 5th Best Way To Exercise Your Brain…Yawning!

Here is an article on yawning I posted last year. Laugh if you want (though you’ll benefit your brain more if you smile), but in my professional opinion, yawning is one of the best-kept secrets in neuroscience. Even my colleagues who are researching meditation, relaxation, and stress reduction at other universities have overlooked this powerful neural-enhancing tool. However, yawning has been used for many decades in voice therapy as an effective means for reducing performance anxiety and hypertension in the throat.

What Causes Jaw Pain?

Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ) are problems or symptoms of the chewing muscles and joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull. Great American Smokeout Nov. 18th, Quit With Acupuncture

The good news is that now less than 2 out of 10 adults smoke. The number of American adults who smoke has dropped below 20 percent for the first time in our nation’s history. The bad news is health officials said that cigarettes kill almost a half-million people a year. The 1990s showed adult males in the U.S. lost an average of 13.2 years of their lives and females lost 14.5 years due to smoking. Compared to people who continue smoking, smokers who quit before age 50 cut their risk of dying in half over the next 15 years, according to the American Cancer Society.

While modern technology has enabled us to use surgery and Botox (injecting botulinum toxin into facial muscles) to look younger, you might ask what are these people going to do 5 years down the road? Before you schedule an appointment for Botox, you might want to know a little more about it.

Botox uses the substance that causes botulism, a sometimes fatal form of food poisoning. Botox interrupts nerve impulses to muscles in the face. The crow’s feet that appear when you squint, the lines that furrow your brow when you raise your eyebrows and the creases between the eyebrows when you frown can be caused by tension in underlying muscles, which contract the skin. Botox keeps this from happening temporarily.
